Goddess Gem is the protective deity in the hearts of the Mosuo people, and Mount Gem is a sacred mountain. It is an ancient worship concept of the Mosuo people, a concept of harmonious development between humans and nature, hoping that under the protection of Goddess Gem, the Mosuo region can become a place of hope, peace, and happiness.
Legend has it that there were originally no mountains in the area of Lugu Lake. The goddess Gem often flies from the north to the lake at night with the male mountain gods to take a bath and talk about love. When the rooster crows, they fly back to the north. One night, the male mountain gods waited for a long time, and the goddess Gem arrived late. Just as they were about to play, it was dawn and they couldn't fly back. So, the goddess Gem drifted to the shores of Lugu Lake and became Mount Gem, while the male immortals surrounded her and became Mount Hava, Mount Zezhi, and Mount Asha.
Goddess Gem is a very kind deity who often rides a white horse (also known as a deer) on outings. She not only blesses the people and animals in this area with prosperity, good weather, and abundant grains, but also bestows special blessings on women for health, beauty, happy marriage, and a house full of children and grandchildren.
These legends have bestowed a mysterious halo on the goddess of Gem, while also reflecting the Mosuo people's yearning and pursuit for a better life. On this special day of Goddess's Day, I wish all female friends health, beauty, and eternal youth!
